A word I just invented to describe the look someone has as understanding washes over their face. Some other words might work for parts of the experience a but I think a new one is necessary to encompass this occurrence. Not only is there the relief and joy at having made their discovery but also the distant gaze that follows as the implications of that knowledge seep into the mind and take root in the worldview. Thus you can now use the expression, “the boy was bewildered for most of the class, but every now and then an azampharious look emerged on his face.” I guess this word is important to me because this is my favorite feeling in the world. It is different than elation because it also contains a dash of numinous. I’ll attribute this to the fact that during this period of realization we also find out just how much we do not know. The prospect of applying said knowledge can also be daunting I suppose. Either way, I’ll take my award for linguistic achievement whenever. Thanks.
